This is combination of a personal site I used to organize study information and the name comes from a site to help pre school children learn English in Chile. The educational system in Chile is operated mainly by semi-private institutions that take children either in the mornings or in the afternoons. In Chile there are many single moms who are mostly unemployed. Single mothers as well as most mothers take their young children to school and then go pick them up. Because school is either in the morning or in the afternoon it interrupts the day. Many times mothers can not afford the transport back home so they just hang out near the school waiting for their children finish class. In some cases when a mother has work then the child is left at home because of the inconvenience Using the building and property we have in Chile, in 2008 we tested a solution to this problem. We hired a single mother to come in and follow a unique method of teaching. She had two children 4 and 6 years old plus a neighbors 5 year old. The concept was to have this work as a day care, that would also take the children to and from School. Mothers could drop off children at any time and pickup at any time ... giving them the ability to find employment and at the same time giving learning opportunities to the children. We found we could charge a modest fee for this service and it would be self-sustaining or even profitable. There were also entrepreneural opportunities for things to do with the mothers that were unemployed. Teaching English was central to this service. The day would begun with breakfast and three new words to learn... the children quickly learned the names of the utensils... manners were an important part of meals and activities. The children would participate in setting the table and preparation of the meals. The day was built around set activities ... like, garden work, drawing and painting, book reading, field trips, games etc all in English. Twice a day the children would come to this web site and navigate a page made just for them.
We are working with a Baptist church to initiate a school in Chile.
